MCM Show Guide: If you’re meeting celebrities…

Ready to meet your heroes? Don’t miss the unique opportunity to meet your on screen favourites face-to-face at MCM Birmingham. Here’s our quick guide to making your celebrity encounter one to remember…

How does it all work?

For autographs…

When you arrive in the autograph area, a helpful member of staff will direct you to the relevant line and answer any questions you may have. Once it’s your turn, they’ll scan your ticket and you’ll be able to choose from the available selection of photos, or present your own item for the guest to sign. Simple! Read more in Epic’s autograph FAQs here.

For photos…

As with autographs, once you arrive in the photo area, you’ll be directed to the correct line for your chosen guest. Once it’s your turn, step up to the photo backdrop, say hello, strike a pose and then head round to the photo collection table. You’ll receive a high quality, glossy 8x10 photograph of yourself and the talent of your choice, taken by one of our professional photographers. Read more in Epic’s photo-op FAQs here.

Please note, photo and autograph opportunities are paid-for additions! Head to our website to purchase them today.

In the queue line…

You may have a bit of a wait before meeting some of the more popular guests. This is a great opportunity to gather your thoughts, plan what you’re going to say when you meet them, or even meet some new friends.

Pro-tip: Trade off with your group for super long queues - take the time to grab some food, use the bathroom or grab that bit of merch you’ve been eyeing up. Just make sure you’re back in time!

Most importantly, if you feel overwhelmed or anxious at any point, remember there are people around to help you. Please alert a member of staff who will be able to assist.

Things to bring…

  • Your confirmation email as proof of purchase.
  • The item you want signed - You’re welcome to select one of the show-ready photos we’ll have at the signing booth on the day, or bring along something special to be signed.

Do…

  • Be friendly! Introduce yourself, strike up conversation, ask a question or how their day is going. Guests are happy to chat and love hearing how much you rate their work.
  • Make the most of your slot…but respect their time and others’ in the queue line. It’s better to keep things short and sweet!
  • Respect personal boundaries. Especially in current times, everyone will have different levels when it comes to interacting with fans; wait for them to initiate a handshake or hug.

Don’t…

  • Be inappropriate or harass the guests. They’re people too, and are trying to enjoy the convention just as much as you are!
  • Bring large gifts - celebrities have baggage allowance too!

We hope you have a great time meeting the guests at MCM and can’t wait to see your amazing photos! Keen to share? Tag us on social media @mcmcomiccon.

No, panels are free to attend and do not require booking. Capacity may be limited for some panels depending on demand.

Yes, an admission ticket is a prerequisite to getting a photo op. Please ensure you purchase an admissions ticket prior to purchasing any photo ops.

Our celebrity guests, including SAG-AFTRA (The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists Union) members, will still be appearing at MCM Comic Con. If the strike is not resolved by the time our event takes place in December, what will be affected is what they’re able to discuss during our panels, as SAG-AFTRA restricts their members from participating in the promotion of struck work.

While guests may not be able to talk about past, current or upcoming projects from struck properties and studios, they’ll be able to discuss their backgrounds in film and TV, their personal hobbies, and their work outside of their film/TV careers. Actors will also be allowed to appear together for Photo Ops and on panels as a cast. At the panel, they will be able to discuss their experiences filming with each other without discussing specific episodes or scenes. Our moderators will also be declining any fan questions during fan Q&As that ask the actors about specific struck work or companies. It just means we’ll have to get a little creative in the questions that are asked during the panel 😉

Yes! Our celebrity guests will still be participating in Photo Ops and Autographing. There will be no changes to Photo Ops; those will take place as normal. There is an Autographing guideline, though. Any of our celebrity guests who appear in struck properties will only have their own personal headshots at their table. They won’t be providing headshots that depict them as a character from their struck work. However, if you’d like them to sign a photo or item from a struck property that you bring with you from home or buy at MCM Comic Con, they are allowed to sign that item.

While the strikes are only between members of SAG-AFTRA and the studios, SAG has asked members of the British Actors Equity Association to stand in solidarity with their cause. Additionally, many UK based talent are also members of SAG and this will still affect them.
