Security, Health, & Safety

This page was updated on 24h October 2021. To ensure safety at all our events, we’ll be following the latest government advice around vaccinations and social distancing, as well as individual venue rules for ExCeL London and the NEC Birmingham. We’ll be updating this page with any changes, and encourage all our fans to keep an eye on the latest government advice when attending our shows.

We’re excited to welcome you back to MCM Comic Con!

As always, your health and safety are our top priorities. We’ve implemented new guidelines and policies to help support a safe experience. Every attendee, including fans, exhibitors, artists, guests, crew, and staff, are expected to comply with our health and safety requirements, including:

Proof Of COVID-19 Status

To ensure the safety of the event, and following pilot event results and latest government advice, everyone aged 3 or over entering ExCeL London and NEC Birmingham will be required to provide one of the following:

a. Proof of full course of vaccination.

b. Proof of negative COVID test within the last 48 hours (Lateral flow test is accepted).

c. Proof of natural immunity shown by a positive PCR test result for COVID-19, lasting for 180 days after the date of the positive test and following completion of the self-isolation period.

For more information on national guidelines, please visit the government website.

To find out how to get a free lateral flow test or find the locations of testing sites, please visit NHS website.

Reduced Capacity

Attendance and tickets will be limited so that we can ensure physical distancing, in line with our safety measures. We are working closely with the venue to determine how many people are permitted in the building each day and at a given time.

Mask Friendly Event

We strongly encourage attendees and visitors to continue wearing masks, especially when in enclosed or crowded spaces.

By checking everyone’s COVID status prior to entrance to the venue, the chance of someone with COVID entering the building and therefore the possibility of transmission is significantly reduced. We strongly encourage attendees to continue wearing masks to further reduce infection risk and ensure a safe show for everybody, although wearing a mask is down to your personal choice and what you feel comfortable with.

Please remember that if you travel to the venue using public transport you will be required to wear a face covering.

We also reserve the right to require masks in certain areas of the show if needed or required by guests, such as the autographing area. Any such requirements will be announced closer to the event.

Enhanced Cleaning

We will have enhanced cleaning throughout the show and plenty of hand sanitising stations available. It is the responsibility of everyone to maintain personal hygiene, including washing your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water.

Increased Ventilation

Ventilation will be increased, improving fresh air circulation in line with the latest guidance.

The above policy is subject to change. We are committed to upholding the health & safety standards outlined on this page and will continue to update these as we respond to the latest information. Additional details about policies and procedures will be posted here as they are made available.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, and we can’t wait to celebrate together safely at MCM 2021!

Current guidance suggests that verifying attendees COVID-19 Status is an effective way of reducing the risk of transmission among large groups. Studies of those who have received a full vaccination course demonstrate that the risk of carrying and transmitting the disease is vastly reduced. For those not vaccinated, a lateral flow test has been proven as a reliable way of indicating if people are currently carrying the virus. Therefore, this evidence suggests that this is the best way to keep everyone safe.
