Safety and Security at our Events

1.   Introduction

Reed Exhibitions Limited or the global affiliate of Reed Exhibitions Limited that is operating the Event (“RX”, “our”) is the Organiser of the Event. The “Event” shall be defined as the event managed by Organiser, including any live and/or virtual component(s) thereto.

The safety, and security of everyone attending the Event is our utmost priority. To achieve this, RX works closely with the venue, our security vendors, local law enforcement authorities, and public health officials/advisors to undertake risk assessments and develop safety and security protocols for each event.

The policies and procedures below apply to everyone attending the Event, in whatever capacity, including (but not limited to): exhibitors, visitors, speakers, guests, media, staff members, workers, contractors, sub-contractors, security, and anyone else who attends the Event (“You”, “your”).

2.   On-site security measures

During the Event, a variety of security measures are implemented to protect you and maintain a safe environment. In particular:

  • Security staff may approach you outside the Event, on entry to the Entry or inside the Event in order to assist and comply with our safety and security protocols;
  • You are required to wear the event ID badges provided to you at all times whilst entering and attending the Event;
  • Security safeguarding measures and operational plans are in place at our events, which may include but are not limited to:
    • badge/ ticket verification (e.g. at the Event entrance)
    • possible bag checks
    • monitored security surveillance/ CCTV
    • uniformed and covert security guards
    • crowd management, stewards, signage, barriers and loudspeaker announcement as RX determines is necessary
    • Walkthrough or handheld scanners
    • Uniformed and covert police

You are required to:

  • Ensure you allow enough time to comply with our entry requirements and remain patient and courteous while undertaking any security checks.
  • Keep personal property with you at all times and do not leave any items unattended. RX is not responsible for any lost or missing property.
  • Refrain from attending with any baggage which is not strictly necessary for your attendance at the Event.
  • Report anything that looks unusual, suspicious, or out of place to a member of security or Event personnel.
  • Carry a recognized form of photo ID (e.g. driver license, identity card) with you at all times during the Event.
  • Comply with all Event policies, signage and instructions of Event personnel, e.g. with respect to crowd management etc.
  • Refrain from attending the Event if you are not feeling well.
  • Respect the personal boundaries of everyone else attending the Event.
  • Dispose of your badge inside the Event area on your final visit to the Event or on your return home and not in the waste bins located immediately outside the Event to prevent misusage by others.

At RX UK, the safety, welfare, and dignity of every attendee, exhibitor, staff member, and participant at MCM Comic Con 2025 is our highest priority. We are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and secure environment where everyone can enjoy and celebrate popular culture without fear of harm, harassment, or exploitation. Our safeguarding approach is proactive, robust, and continuously reviewed, ensuring all necessary measures are in place to protect children, young people, and vulnerable adults. We work closely with venue teams, security partners, and safeguarding professionals to uphold best practices in event safety and child protection, ensuring every individual feels respected, supported, and safe throughout the event. 

Safeguarding & Child Protection Aims:

  • To protect the welfare of all attendees, especially children, young people, and vulnerable adults, by ensuring a safe and supportive environment. 
  • To implement clear and accessible reporting procedures for concerns, incidents, or allegations related to safeguarding, ensuring prompt and appropriate action. 
  • To ensure all staff, volunteers, and contractors are trained in safeguarding awareness and understand their responsibilities in keeping others safe. 
  • To maintain effective partnerships with local authorities, emergency services, and safeguarding professionals to support best practice and crisis response. 
  • To provide a visible and approachable safeguarding presence throughout the event to support attendees and handle issues discreetly and sensitively. 
  • To design the event layout and activities with safety in mind, including appropriate supervision, child-friendly zones, and secure entry/exit procedures. 
  • To promote a zero-tolerance policy towards abuse, harassment, discrimination, or exploitation in any form. 
  • To ensure all activities and engagements involving children or vulnerable groups are risk-assessed, age-appropriate, and conducted by suitably vetted personnel. 
  • To regularly review and update safeguarding policies, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and alignment with current best practice 
  • To foster a culture of respect, inclusion, and responsibility, where everyone feels empowered to speak up and where safeguarding is understood as everyone’s business.
