Guardians of the Galaxy star Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer) is the first special guest to be announced for MCM Manchester Comic Con, which storms back to Manchester Central on 27-28 July.
Alabama-born Rooker plays azure-skinned space pirate Yondu Udonta in Marvel’s much-loved superhero space opera and its 2017 sequel. The ruthless but likeable leader of the Ravagers, Yondu kidnaps – and eventually adopts – protagonist Peter Quill (Chris Pratt). Armed with a self-propelled arrow, Rooker’s character initially pursues Quill to get his hands on the orb containing the Infinity Stone, but teams up with the Guardians to prevent the villainous Ronan from using it to destroy the planet Xandar.
Beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Rooker is best known for playing redeemed bad guy Merle Dixon in hugely successful zombie show The Walking Dead and for his breakout role as the title character of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. Other big screen credits include Days of Thunder, JFK, Tombstone, Mallrats, Mississippi Burning and Slither, while his television appearances include True Detective, Archer and Stargate SG-1.
