Classic Kevin Smith comedy Clerks turns 25 this year, and we’re stoked to announce that View Askewniverse stars Jason Mewes and Brian O’Halloran will be celebrating the movie’s silver anniversary with us at MCM London in May.
Currently filming Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Jason Mewes is best known as the never-silent half of cult fave duo Jay and Silent Bob, while Brian O’Halloran plays the main protagonist of Clerks and Clerks II, put-upon Quick-Stop and Mooby’s employee Dante Hicks.
Shot for just $27,575 in the New Jersey convenience and video stores where director Kevin Smith worked in real life, black-and-white comedy Clerks is a classic of indie cinema, launching Smith’s career as a filmmaker and spawning a series of films, comic books and TV shows set in the View Askewniverse, as Clerks’ fictional world is dubbed by fans.
Since first appearing as Jay in 1994’s Clerks, Jason Mewes has gone on to star as the much-loved, motor-mouthed stoner in Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Clerks II, not to mention Clerks: The Animated Series and other cartoons. The upcoming Jay and Silent Bob Reboot will see Mewes reprise his best-known role once again, as Jay and Silent Bob travel across the USA in an attempt to stop a reboot being made of the ‘Bluntman and Chronic’ film featured in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
Brian O’Halloran stars as Dante Hicks in Kevin Smith’s low-budget classic Clerks and its 2006 sequel. Clerks sees O’Halloran’s character working at the Quick-Stop convenience store, although he spends most of his days hanging out with best friend Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson). By the time Clerks II rolls around, the pair have ‘progressed’ to flipping burgers at fast food outlet Mooby’s, where Dante falls for his manager Becky (Rosario Dawson). O’Halloran also appears in Smith’s other View Askewniverse-set movies.
