Certified personal trainer, self-taught martial artist, aspiring stunt actor and social media sensation Shaina West will be giving martial arts demonstrations and taking part in a Q&A panel on MCM London Comic Con’s Creator Stage.
Known as ‘The Samurider’ because of her love of martial arts, samurai, anime and motorbikes, Shaina West will also be available for fan images and signings at her booth on the show floor. Inspired by anime such as Afro Samurai, the 23-year-old Londoner took up martial arts after a horrific motorcycle accident left her feeling helpless and weak, and Shaina’s style and dedication have won her an enthusiastic following on Instagram.
“I want to inspire people to break free from their restricted, inhibited lives and do what they love. No excuses, no fear. I learned about martial arts and weapons from YouTube. In this day and age there is nothing that you cannot teach yourself using the infinite resources on the internet,” says Shaina. “I want people to take the leap and find happiness the way I did.”
Currently preparing to become a stunt actor by training in sword and staff combat, synchronised fight choreography and gymnastics, Shaina West is also working on a new tutorial-based series of YouTube videos to help others find their inner warrior.
