Prompted by the political turmoil of the last year and the renaissance of American television satire, there has been much debate lately about the apparent lack of British topical comedy on TV.
But why are we looking for it now? Do we believe that satire can turn the tide of what, to many, feels like the crumbling of liberal democracy? Or do we simply need funny people to break the tension created by Brexit, the refugee crisis and Trump?
In this session, some of the brightest minds in political comedy including Rory Bremner (Bremner, Bird and Fortune), Jolyon Rubinstein (The Revolution Will Be Televised), Nish Kumar (The Mash Report) and Matt Forde (Unspun) will ask the question, Satire! What is it good for?

Black Mirror is an award-winning anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world. The House of Tomorrow drama originally launched on Channel 4 to widespread critical acclaim and following the hugely publicised move to Netflix last year, catapulted Brooker, Jones and their dystopian tales from the dark side into the global market.
Exploring contemporary themes of techno paranoia and the horrors of the smartphone era, you can hear from creator and writer Charlie Brooker, and executive producer Annabel Jones as they delve into the Black Mirror archives and discuss the origination and continued inspiration behind their satirical, often uncomfortably prophetic televisual phenomenon.
