Lou Ferrigno, star of iconic ‘70s superhero show The Incredible Hulk, is the latest special guest to be announced for Manchester Comic Con, meeting fans and signing autographs on both days of the July show.

Brooklyn-born Ferrigno was a professional bodybuilder and two-time Mr. Universe champion before he took up acting – his competition with Arnold Schwarzenegger for the title of Mr. Olympia is the subject of famous 1975 documentary Pumping Iron – so the New Yorker was a natural pick to play the muscle-bound hero of 1977 series The Incredible Hulk.

The show ran for 82 episodes over five seasons, after which Ferrigno and co-star Bill Bixby (who played the Hulk’s everyday alter ego) went on to appear in three TV movies – 1988’s The Incredible Hulk Returns, 1989’s The Trial of the Incredible Hulk and 1990’s The Death of the Incredible Hulk. Lou returned to voice the Hulk in 1996 animated series The Incredible Hulk and also made cameos in both Ang Lee’s 2003 film and Marvel Studios’ own 2008 take on the green-skinned superhero.

Recent non-Hulk appearances on our screens by Lou Ferrigno include Adventure Time, Supernatural, Chuck and a recurring role in US sitcom The King of Queens, while earlier this year Ferrigno starred as himself in Alan Tudyk’s web comedy Con Man.
