Award-winning filmmakers Souvid Datta and Chris Bouchard will be at MCM London later this month to unveil their upcoming superhero television series in development Dark Rising. Presenting a panel at midday on the Sunday of the show, the pair will officially launch Dark Rising’s trailer and website, as well as giving con-goers an exclusive first glimpse of the series’ pilot.
From the politically-charged slums of central Africa to neglected communities across Europe and Central America, Dark Rising tells the story of troubled youths discovering strange and formidable powers. With its global scope and hyper-realistic tone, the series aims to champion diversity in the superhero genre, pushing it into grittier and more nuanced territory.
Last year saw Souvid Datta, whose credits include work for the BBC, Channel 4, Google and The Guardian, film a series of shorts with local actors in Kenya as a proof-of-concept for Dark Rising. Meanwhile, Chris Bouchard is best known for breakout YouTube hit The Hunt For Gollum and as the co-director of upcoming live-action The Little Mermaid coming this summer
