MCM is proud to welcome legendary movie director and Troma Entertainment President and co-founder LLOYD KAUFMAN to London for the weekend!
The Troma Universe was born in 1974 with a series of influential, and highly original, raunchy comedies whilst working the side on classic movies like Rocky, SaturdayNight Fever and My Dinner with Andre. Troma’s own 1984 breakthrough movie, The Toxic Avenger struck a chord with audiences and critics alike leading to an animated television series, several different comic book titles (published by Marvel and, most recently, Troma’s own independent comic book imprint), and three sequels. After a sold-out Premiere performance, the hit rock musical The Toxic Avenger will return for a UK run in September.
The success of The Toxic Avenger was followed by a string of commercial and artistic triumphs in a similar vein, blending fantasy, heavy action, comedy, and eroticism. These films, including, Surf Nazis Must Die, Cannibal! The Musical, Poultrygeist, Tromeo and Juliet and the Class of Nuke ‘Em High trilogy speak to generations of young people who reject mainstream cinema. Some of these Troma fans have gone on to become successful filmmakers themselves, including Peter Jackson, Mike Judge, Kevin Smith, Quentin Tarantino, South Park’s Trey Parker (whose debut movie, Cannibal! The Musical, was a Troma production) and James Gunn (who co-wrote Tromeo and Juliet for Troma before making the Guardians of the Galaxy films).
Amongst many awards and achievements, Mr. Kaufman also worked with a young Oliver Stone, attended school with George W. Bush and even had a dalliance with the legendary Andy Warhol scene. Recently Mr. Kaufman and Troma have released the acclaimed UK cult sci-fi comedy Essex Spacebin and he has directed his most recent film Return to Nuke ‘Em High: Vol 2 (which is Lemmy from Motörhead’s last film role).
We welcome Lloyd for a special panel to discuss his career, latest films, including Essex Spacebin, the Toxic Avenger Musical coming to the UK and more, plus signings, a Troma stall and look out for Lloyd in the gaming area supporting the ‘Victor Vran: Motörhead Through the Ages’ game Lloyd cameo’s in.
“Lloyd’s body of work has now proven to be a seminal influence on film today. Just look at any film created by the likes of Quentin Tarantino, Takashi Miike, Peter Jackson, Eli Roth and James Gunn, to name a few, and you are likely watching a film influenced Class of Nuke ‘Em High, Tromeo & Juliet, or Citizen Toxie.” Stan Lee – Chairman of Marvel Comics.
Lloyd will be signing on the GAME stand at MCM London Comic Con!
