MCM Birmingham Comic Con is excited to be joined by Richard K Morgan, author of the classic cyberpunk noir novel Altered Carbon, and James Purefoy, who stars as Laurens Bancroft in the major new series based on the book, which launched on Netflix in February this year.

Saturday 14:00 on the Main Stage

In addition to the Takeshi Kovacs series, British born Morgan is the author of the stand-alone novels Market Forces, and Black Man I Thirteen, the Land Fit for Heroes sword and sorcery trilogy (comprising The Steel Remains, The Cold Commands and The Dark Defiles), two Black Widow comics for Marvel and the Crysis 2 and Syndicate computer games as well as a Crysis graphic novel. His latest science fiction novel, Thin Air, will be published in October 2018.

Purefoy is an English actor, producer and director whose previous roles include Mark Antony in Rome, Joe Carroll in The Following, the eponymous hero in the feature film Solomon Kane as well as Pangbourne in High-Rose and King George VI.

Altered Carbon is an intriguing story of murder, love, sex, and betrayal, set more than 300 years in the future. Society has been transformed by new technology: consciousness can be digitized; human bodies are interchangeable; death is no longer permanent. Takeshi Kovacs is the lone surviving soldier in a group of elite interstellar warriors who were defeated in an uprising against the new world order. His mind was imprisoned – on ice – for centuries until Laurens Bancroft, an impossibly wealthy, long-lived man, offers Kovacs the chance to live again. In exchange, Kovacs has to solve a murder … that of Bancroft himself.

The 10 part series, executive produced by Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island, Avatar, Terminator Genisys), stars James Purefoy, Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop, Suicide Squad and The Killing), Martha Higareda (Royal Pains, Street Kings and McFarland), Renee Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton, The Good Wife, The Get Down), , Will Yun Lee (The Wolverine, True Blood) and Dichen Lachman (Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D, The Last Ship, Supergirl, The 100).

Altered Carbon Season 1 is on Netflix now.
