UPDATE! Dan Starkey will be joining Pearl Mackie and our other great Doctor Who guests at Birmingham Comic Con. Although he has made numerous appearances on the classic sci-fi show, Starkey is best known as fan favourite Strax – a former Sontaran army commander who formed an unlikely friendship with the Doctor’s Eleventh and Twelfth incarnations, and currently serves as Madame Vastra and Jenny Flint’s (admittedly rather warlike) butler in Victorian London.
Best known for playing Bill Potts, the latest companion in Doctor Who’s tenth series, the British actress, dancer, and singer worked alongside the twelfth incarnation of the alien time traveler, the Doctor (portrayed by Peter Capaldi).
The two characters first met when the Time Lord took the sci-fi loving orphan under his wing when she was working in a canteen and started to attend lectures by a man known only as ‘The Doctor’. It wasn’t long until he invited her on board the Tardis and they became a strong duo, battling space zombies, Ice Warriors, and the Truth Monks!
Pearl Mackie’s other credits include ‘Foh girl’ in in the 2013 music comedy Svengali, alongside Martin Freeman, Maxine Peake, Morwenna Banks and Matt Berry, Mia in Crystal Springs at the Park Theatre in London, Anne-Marie Frasier in Doctors and Sarah in Date Aid.
She has also performed in the National Theatre’s West End production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time in 2015 and worked as an acting tutor for Troupers, a company who teaches theatre skills to children and young people.
Pearl will be meeting fans at MCM Birmingham Comic Con on both Saturday and Sunday.
